Field Trip to the Worms

MArtha and Thatcher.jpg

This morning the group went on a field trip to one of our collaborators, George Sutphin’s, laboratory. His group uses C. elegans to study the molecular biology of aging. With these organism we hope to explore the possibility of incorporating them in the drug discovery process. It was an interesting time looking at the worms first hand and learning about the techniques used to conduct experiments.

Depicted above is some group members walking to meet George. To the right is Chris examining a custom made silicon plate called a ‘worm motel’ used to observe the aging process of the worms individually.
